Method

How the coaching works

What I teach comes from what I had to learn myself: the professional circuit, top junior level, and NCAA college tennis, under coaches in Romania, Spain and the United States. Three countries teach the game three different ways, and that is what you get. In practice it means four things.

1

Technique as one system

Grip, stance, contact point and swing work as one connected unit. Change the grip and the contact point has to move with it. Coaching that treats them separately is why a “corrected” stroke often falls apart a week later.

2

Difficulty set deliberately

Ball speed, incoming angle, how far you have to move, how much swing you get: each one is a dial. I set them so you work just past comfortable and just short of overwhelmed, then move the dial as you improve.

3

A written profile for every player

Every player I coach has a written profile: current level, technical focus points, what we worked on and what comes next. You are never starting the lesson from scratch, and you always know what you are working towards.

4

Progression, in that order

Whole movement before detail. Easy before hard. Slow before fast. Controlled feed before live ball. Skip a step and the stroke works in the lesson, then disappears in the match.

About

Philip Kamara

I coach tennis and padel across the Tilburg and Oisterwijk region, working with juniors taking their first swings, adults returning to the sport, and competitive players who want a technical problem solved properly.

My coaching comes out of my own playing career. I competed on the professional circuit and at top junior level, reaching No. 6 in Romania, and then played NCAA Division II for Midwestern State University in Texas. I trained under coaches in Romania, Spain and the United States. What I teach comes from that rather than from a manual.

I hold the KNLTB Tennisleraar A licence, the Dutch national coaching qualification. It is listed in the KNLTB lerarenregister.

Outside tennis I train for long-course triathlon. That shapes how I think about training load, recovery, and building a season a player can sustain.

Lessons are given in English.

Contact

Book a session

The quickest way to arrange a lesson is to call. Tell me your level, what you would like to work on and when you are usually free, and we will settle a court, a time and a rate in one conversation.

Not sure which lesson suits you? Say what you are after and I will tell you honestly what I would recommend, including if that is not with me.
